ONDO 2016 UPDATE: JUDGE HAS NULLIFIED THE PDP CONVENTION THAT PRODUCE AHMED MAKARFI AS NATIONAL CHAIRMAN

ONDO 2016 UPDATE: JUDGE HAS NULLIFIED THE PDP CONVENTION THAT PRODUCE AHMED MAKARFI AS  NATIONAL CHAIRMAN ......This means this faction can't produce Jegede as Ondo PDP candidate.

Justice Abang acted right on Ondo PDP gov criss - NJC. Justice Okon Abang has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the National Judicial Council, NJC, in the June 29 ruling where he endorsed a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Ali Modu Sheriff, as authentic. Recognition of Sheriff’s faction of PDP led to eventual substitution of Eyitayo Jegede’s name by INEC and replaced it with Jimoh Ibrahim. In separate letters to four different petitioners who had written against Mr. Abang, the Council said it found “no proof of misconduct against the Federal High Court judge. One of the petitioners, Ayodele Ibini, a factional secretary of the PDP from Ondo State, had asked the NJC to investigate the judge for alleged judicial misconduct in the June 29 ruling where Mr. Sheriff was recognised as authentic PDP chairman. They demanded investigations into alleged judicial misconduct by the judge. The council said it dismissed all four petitions for their failure to substantially prove any wrongdoing against Mr. Abang.
The petitioners alleged that Mr. Abang abused his official privileges in his decisions on the PDP Ondo State crisis. The NJC, however, said it found no record of misconduct or abuse of judicial powers in the decisions made by Mr. Abang regarding both judgements. Mr. Abang also nullified the national convention of the PDP that produced Ahmed Makarfi as leader. He said the decision of the PDP to embark on the convention, despite a court order from a Lagos High Court, amounted to impunity.

Trump’s victory: I’ll tear my green card on January 20, says Soyinka

Story by: Akeem Lasisi

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has given an indication that he will tear up his Green Card on January 20, 2017, the day Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th President of the US.
Last week, Soyinka had, in annoyance with the possible victory of the Republican candidate, threatened to destroy the card.
In an interview with The INTERVIEW, the world-acclaimed writer and human rights activist expressed resentment at Trump’s emergence, saying it spelt trouble for humanity.

Asked if he still intended to thrash the card, he said, “Come January 20, 2017; watch my WOLEXIT!”
By WOLEXIT, he seemed to be referring to his final ‘exit’ from the US, playing on Brexit, the expression referring to Britain’s historical exit from the European Union.
Although he said he was not too surprised that Trump won, he noted that his victory had brought an already teetering world closer to the precipice.
He said, “The possibility (of Trump’s victory) was looming nearer and nearer, getting scarier and scarier.
“As the election day approached, the specter became near palpable. I refused to switch on the television this morning until I had stiffened myself with a strong espresso. I felt disaster in my marrow.
“Trump’s wall is already under construction. Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only across the mental landscape of America but across the global landscape. “I am glad you referred to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – that was one anniversary in reversal!”

So, politics is not new to me and I’m not like those people who are running for the first time. I need not to do all the work by moving to all the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.
“I am not new to the people of Ondo State, I ran before and I had very impressive result at the last engagement when I ran for the governorship of this state. It is my ambition to become the governor of this state and I’m back to realise that ambition.”

He stated, “I need to take the state from the hopeless situation  it is now to a very hopeful situation. I need to take away injustice, we cannot afford to have a senatorial district producing governors for 16 years at a go. That is injustice, that is hopeless and we will not allow that, and that will not happen in Ondo State.”

The latter phrase was a clear reference to lewd comments made by Trump in 2005 and captured by a hot microphone.
“I’m automatically attracted to beautiful (women), I just start kissing them.
“It’s like a magnet, just kiss, I don’t even wait, and when you’re a star they let you do it.
“You can do anything, grab them by the pussy,” Trump said in the leaked audio that rocked his campaign in October.
Security officials escorted the two women from the polling site, a Manhattan high school gym and the disruption was over within minutes.
Trump, who had not yet arrived to cast his ballot, missed the protest.
Femen, a group of Ukrainian origin, is known for its naked protests around the world.
On its website, Femen describes itself as “an international women’s movement of brave topless female activists painted with the slogans and crowned with flowers.”

SDP CHAMPION WOMEN AGENDA IN ONDO 2016: A SUCCESSFUL STATE MUST MAKE WOMEN ISSUES A PRIORITY.

Ondo women supports Agunloye
We need our women to nurse Ondo State back to prosperity and SDP has created a pathway to make it happen.
It has been known that if you want anything done to perfection with care, love and compassion, you need to get the women involved. This is what Dr. Olu Agunloye has decided to do in Ondo State 2016 election, by picking a woman as his deputy governor. This would be the first time that the state will be privileged to have a woman co-piloting the state affair.
It is time to recognize the power of women in our society and how much they contribute to our social, economy and spiritual development. Whatever religion woman worship, she does it dedicatedly with focus and one mind. This is the reason our wives and mothers are the ones that pray for our success at all time. They nurture us with good food, they sacrifice their time and financial resources, and they shower us with their wonderful remarks to make sure we feel important.
For these reasons, the Social Democratic Party is making sure that not only that the women talents, skills, brilliance, charisma and their goal-getter tenacity would be the driving force to victory in November election and in the new successful administration in 2017.
Having a woman in the executive state affairs means a lot to the progress of Ondo State women. Many social issues that involve our women across different ages would be the major focus point in the Agunloye administration. This is an encouragement to all of our young women, our daughters, our market women and the business women leaders to know that they are part of the development of the state. They also can influence the political decision by voting for the party and candidate that care the most about what matter to the women directly.
Issues such as promoting children health care, girl child education initiative, counseling about career decision, that they too can accomplish same career goal as their male counterpart.  This includes having more girls studying engineering, computer science, architecture, construction management and so on. Encouraging our girls against premarital sex and providing reproductive health counseling to them, advocating young female protection and security across the state. Having countering measure to tackle female domestic violence, making sure girls and women feel comfortable to report rape incident to appropriate authority for investigation. Advocating for statewide policies that will protect school girls from stalkers, sexual abuse, and sexual predator who prey on school girls, condemning sexual harassment against women in the workplace, making sure women don't have to offer their body to employers before they can be offered a decent job opportunity or promotion in the office.
The progressive agenda for women will also include looking into maternity leave and making sure Ondo State women are getting the best treatment and recovery after putting to bed. Working to reduce infant mortality rate to the minimum and eliminating child hunger in the state. Promoting family planning, child day care and early education, children's health and education foundation fund for children born during Agunloye Administration. Making sure we start investing in our children from day one. These are various issues that we know directly affect our girls and women in Ondo State, which would be part of the agenda to be accomplished under Dr. Olu Agunloye and his deputy governor Hon. Modupe Martins.
This is a new era for our girls and women in Ondo State, and SDP is the party that is ready to put the right of our women as the priority.  A woman life is an essential human right. Happy and successful woman makes family stronger. Those who care about the women progress need to share the good news and make sure we vote SDP on November 26th, because this is the party and a candidate that understands the value of women goes far beyond the kitchen and the other room.

NLC warns against another fuel price increase

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Federal Government against any further increase in the pump price of petroleum products, especially Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise called petrol.
The warning is coming as the retail stations of the Nigerian Petroleum Corporations in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs have increased the pump price of the PMS to N145 from the initial N141.
Similarly, some private marketers of petroleum products are now selling petrol in their outlets at N150 per litre.
One of our correspondents reported that some filling stations in Lagos and Ogun states had refrained from selling the product.
For instance, the Oando filling stations at Alapere and Berger as well as the Mobil filling station opposite the Magodo Estate gate did not dispense the product to members of the public since Friday.
Similarly, the Ascon and NNPC stations between Arepo and Magboro, off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, did not sell the product on Sunday, raising fears of another round of fuel scarcity.
The General Secretary, NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Sunday that it would be insensitive on the part of the government to increase fuel price in view of the current hardship in the land.
Ozo-Eson added, “Well, we have been clear on this matter from the beginning that once you submit the determination of the prices of the products to the market, the way they are doing it in an import regime, that will devalue the naira. Therefore, they will come back and tell you the prices are not realistic. We knew that from the beginning and we said so.
“The fact of the matter is that any attempt to increase the price of fuel now, given the level of hardship and the level of suffering Nigerians are going through, will be regarded as extremely insensitive.”
The NLC secretary pointed out that while the NLC was opposed to any further adjustment in the price of fuel, it was up to Nigerians to also decide how to live with such an adjustment.
He stated, “We do hope that Nigerians will realise that this has no end, and what the government is doing will continue to impose extreme hardship on them, and they need to tell the government that enough is enough.
“Other than that, we oppose any adjustment in the pump price. If the government goes ahead to do it, it will indicate what we hinted right from the beginning that the policy adopted was wrong, and it remains wrong.
“It is up to Nigerians to oppose it. We provided the necessary leadership based on our understanding of the issues and the reality is coming home to roost and it is never too late. Nigerians will have to take the decision as to how they have to live with it.”
While the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency refused to confirm or deny any plan to adjust the price of petrol, one of our correspondents quoted officials of marketing firms as blaming the increase in the pump price on the high cost of the commodity at depots.
The pricing template of the PPPRA for PMS was last updated on May 24, 2016 and it had the pump price at a band of N135 to N145 per litre.
When asked to comment on whether the PPPRA was on the verge of hiking petrol price, the agency’s Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Sotonye Iyoyo, stated that forex had remained a challenge and noted that the agency works with the prevalent market fundamentals when determining or fixing petrol price.
Iyoyo said “Today as we know there is scarcity of foreign exchange and when we want to fix prices we look at the market fundamentals. We don’t just fix prices without looking critically at the fundamentals of the market.
“There is a price band that is between N135 and N145. The maximum is N145, and so anyone selling at that price is still within the price band.”
A source told one of our correspondents that marketers had stopped importing petrol into the country because the landing cost had gone beyond what the PPPRA stated in the template for the product and the government, through the NNPC, had failed to meet its promise of supplying the importers’ forex needs.
The source explained that due to the crisis in the Niger Delta, the NNPC was finding it difficult to generate enough forex from crude sale as the nation was losing an average of one million barrels per day to the bombing of crude pipelines and vandalism of critical infrastructure.
According to him, the marketers have resorted to getting the product from the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company at around N132 per litre, whereas the actual landing cost of the product is between N136 and N137 per litre, adding that the NNPC was currently subsidising the cost of petrol.
However, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has faulted the increase in the pump price of petrol by the NNPC mega stations and other private filling stations.
The minister, who said the price increase was done without his knowledge, said he would investigate the development, adding that he would also meet with oil marketers to discuss issues concerning fuel price.
Speaking on the sidelines of an award ceremony and dinner organised by the PPPRA branch of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria on Saturday night, Kachikwu said the instability in the foreign exchange market had been a challenge to the oil importation business.
When asked if the N4 increase in the pump price of petrol by the NNPC stations was a sign of an imminent hike in the rate, the minister said, “First, I am not aware that the NNPC has increased the price. I need to look into that; it is a bit of surprise for me because there are processes in doing this. If they have done that, it means they are doing it wrongly. Let me find out what the facts are.
“Having said that, the reality is that what we did at the point when we did some liberalisation was to enable the free market to float the price. Obviously, as you look at foreign exchange differentiation and all that, it will impact (on the pump price). The worst thing you can do is to go back to an era where we basically will be fixing prices.
“What we ought to be doing is to watch the prices, making sure that they are not taking advantage of the common man, making sure that the template is respected. One of the things I think we had hoped to do, which we should still do before we embark on any price increase, is to work on that template.”
Kachikwu stated that despite the harsh reality with respect to forex availability, the government was ready to tweak some of the components making up the price of petrol in order to forestall any increase in price.
He said, “There are still areas that are within the government’s control like payments to the Ministry of Transportation and the rest, and payments to the Nigerian Ports Authority that are foreign-currency denominated. We are working on the possibility of being able to shift that out so that you still can modulate the prices within where it is right now. But I will hold a conversation with the industry and see how it is going.
“However, what is key is that I never want to see fuel queues back. Those who are investing must be able to predict the pricing methodologies, the pricing consequences and the actions to be able to justify their investments. At the end of the day, I think the PPPRA is the one that has the authority to say it is time the template does justify some level of movement, otherwise you have a crisis of individual decisions on pricing.”

Election can’t hold in Ondo without PDP – Mimiko

The Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has declared that  governorship election will not take place in the state on November 26, 2016 if the issue of the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party was not resolved.
He, however, said the issue of the PDP standard bearer in the governorship  election would soon be resolved by the appellate court.
The governor expressed the assurance that the candidate of the Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the party, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN),  would contest the election.
The governor stated this on Sunday at the PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the state capital.
According to him, the PDP as a party in Nigeria and Ondo State in particular, is a major stakeholder in election matter and no one can prevent the party from participating in the forthcoming  governorship election in the state.
He said, “I don’t know how they will do it, it is impossible for them to deny us our right. Justice will stand and Jegede will contest this election. Election can’t take place in Ondo State without the PDP.”
The governor explained that the substitution of name at the Independent National Electoral Commission was a conspiracy because the decision of INEC could not find comfort “in justice, in principle, in law and in morality.”
Mimiko, who noted that redress had been sought by Jegede, the PDP and major stakeholders, assured the party members that justice would be done because the alleged impunity on the matter would not stand.
The governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his action towards good and credible elections in the country by ensuring that justice would be done regarding the Ondo election.
He however debunked insinuations that he went to see Buhari  as a prelude to crossing over to the All Progressives Congress.
He explained, “ I had to see the President in my capacity as the Chief Security Officer in Ondo State, briefing the Chief Security Officer of the country on the need to allow justice to prevail, and Mr. President gave his commitment to ensure that justice will be done and I have no reason to doubt him.
“Justice will stand and Jegede will contest the election. Election can’t take place without the PDP.”
We know those that are behind this. It is beyond the President. Their thinking is that without Jegede, they will win but their plan will fail, “ he said.

2016 Ondo poll: Mimiko has goofed -Okitipupa Monarch

Gov. Olusegun Mimiko

Dr. Olu Agunloye
The calculation of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the Governor of Ondo state to pick a candidate from the Central Senatorial District for the coming Governorship election is a wrong calculation, the Rebuja of Osoro land, Oba Gbadebo Bajowa has said.
Oba Bajowa who passed the judgement in his palace at Igbotako in Okitipupa LGA while receiving the Governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Olu Agunloye in his palace said, a Senatorial District can not be watched to rule the state for 16 years in succession.
According to him, no one can allow Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who is from Ondo town in the Central Senatorial District  to install Eyitayo Jegede SAN an indigene of Akure, in the same District  as his successor  after eight years in office.
He therefore described the choice of Dr. Olu Agunloye who is from the Northern Senatorial District and his Deputy, Erelu Modupe Akindele Martins from Ikale land in the Southern District  by the SDP as a welcomed development and a balanced equation.
He noted that the problem of economy hardship the state is facing today is because people like Dr. Agunloye, a talented manager of resources has not been privileged to rule the state.
The Kabiyesi how ever assured that people of Osoro land will come out to vote for Dr. Agunloye, being a tested, trusted and a man of integrity now that he is contesting for the number seat knowing full well that he shall turn things around for better if given the mandate to be Governor.
He how ever appealed to Dr. Agunloye to consider Igbotako/ Aye and other  roads which had been abandoned by the Contractor and the reconnection of the community which has been in darkness for the psst two years to National grid.
Other requests include the reviving of Oluwa glass industry and Palm oil settlement, which were major source of revenue for Okitipoupa Local Government and Ondo state in particular, the effective deduction of five percent to tradition Rulers and the University of Science and Technology which had been suffering neglect in the last seven years.
The Kabiyesi lamented that the non remittance of the five percent to local governments by state Governors had brought untold hardship to traditional Rulers and their Chiefs, as most them receive as little as N3,000 in a month.
While responding, Dr. Agunloye assured the people of Osoro land that part of his agenda is to uplift the status of Royal fathers by removing them ''from the apron'' of state Governors to enable them offer useful advises and air their views on issues that could be beneficial to their people at all times.
He disclosed that his administration will invite foreign investors and Sons and daughters of Okitipupa in diaspora shall be invited to come home and establish industries to improve the economy and create jobs for the Youths
